DRF Plus Graded Stakes Analysis: Obeah Stakes
There seems to be enough speed in the 1 1/8 mile Obeah, a Grade 3, $150,000 event which drew a field of eight, including an entry.
FLASH FORWARD (#5) ships in from New York, and though she's been idle since April she has some nice works showing. More importantly, she fits the race flow, and she's proven at nine furlongs. She also figures to be a decent price, with the GOLDEN PRODUCTION (#1) / GAMAY NOIR (#1A) entry likely to take a good deal of money, thanks largely to the presence of the latter. GAMAY NOIR comes off a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Sixty Sails but she had a fair amount of trouble there. In her previous start, she won the Rampart, another Grade 3 event, overcoming more trouble to score. She'll be a handful in the Obeah but she does loom a relatively short price.
ZUCCHINI FLOWER (#6) chased loose speed and eventual winner Natalie Victoria in the Monmouth Beach last time out, an effort that was better than it may look on paper. She's unproven at this distance but she should be respected off that last Beyer, and she's trained by Graham Motion.
I'll play FLASH FORWARD to win at 5-1 or better (she's 6-1 on the Morning Line), and use her in exactas with GAMAY NOIR and ZUCCHINI FLOWER.
