Dreaming of Drew leads all the way in Princess Elizabeth Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The favored Dreaming of Drew went straight to the front and never looked back to win the 75th running of the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday at Woodbine.
With blinkers on and Patrick Husbands aboard, Dreaming of Drew set honest fractions of :24 and :48.71 in the 1 1/16-mile Tapeta route for Canadian-bred 2-year-old fillies.
Bodacious Miss tracked in second before tiring on the far turn, where Il Malocchio began to mount a rally between rivals. Dreaming of Drew never wavered in the stretch, and prevailed by 3 3/4 lengths over 9-1 shot Il Malocchio, who finished a clear second over the 57-1 bomb Emmeline.

Bodacious Miss wound up fourth, and was followed by 5-2 second choice Curlin’s Catch, Bequia, Dance With Destiny, and El Bayern.
“I breezed her last week with the blinkers on, and I couldn’t believe how relaxed she was,” Husbands said. “With blinkers on, I figured she could show a lot of speed and probably run off, but being on her a week in advance, that gave me a lot of confidence in her.”
Dreaming of Drew ($3.90) covered the distance in 1:44.07. She earned $150,000 in her first stakes victory for Hoolie Racing Stable.
Winning trainer Barbara Minshall said Dreaming of Drew, a daughter of freshman sire Speightster, will be pointed towards next year’s Woodbine Oaks.
