HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer Brian Lynch has been running horses at Gulfstream Park for 20 years, but this winter is certain to go down as his best meet yet. Through Sunday – day 40 of the 72-day winter season – Lynch has 18 wins from 48 starters, a .375 winning percentage that is tops among trainers who have made at least eight starts. His 18 wins are fourth best in that category. At the 2023-24 meet, Lynch won 22 races from 95 starters, so he figures to top his personal-best win total at Gulfstream. Thus far, Lynch is the leading trainer in stakes wins, with seven from 12 starters. Last Saturday, Sister Troienne won her third stakes of the meet when she captured the Sweetest Chant, while Thousandsticks won his first stakes when he took the Kitten’s Joy. “Pleasantly surprised but not shocked,” Lynch said about his season thus far. “Felt like we brought the right horses down for this meet and, fortunately, they’ve run to our expectations.” :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence! DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports are available now.  The 3-year-olds Sister Troienne and Thousandsticks have combined to go 6 for 6, with four stakes wins at the meet, and Lynch made it sound like they’re not done here yet. With an eye toward more lucrative purses in Kentucky later this spring and summer, Lynch indicated Sunday that both Sister Troienne and Thousandsticks are likely to run at Gulfstream one more time. Sister Troienne, who has won five straight overall, is a likely candidate for the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride, while Thousandsticks is expected to run back in the Colonel Liam. Both races are at one mile on Feb. 28. The 4-year-old Litigation has won a pair of listed turf sprint stakes at the meet for Lynch and is likely to run back in the $125,000 Silks Run, another five-furlong turf sprint here March 7, Lynch said. Lynch’s next starters will race Saturday, when he sends out three horses, including Moon Spun, who seeks her third win of the meet in the $125,000 Ladies’ Turf Sprint Stakes. Moon Spun worked a half-mile in 49.05 seconds over the dirt at Palm Meadows on Sunday. “Feel great about Moon Spun this weekend,” Lynch said. “I think she sets up to run well again.” One of the few disappointments for Lynch at this meet is that he had to stop on Wolfie’s Dynaghost after his victory in the Grade 3 Fort Lauderdale Stakes on Dec. 20. Lynch said the now-8-year-old gelding had a cyst in an awkward place, right behind his girth, that needed to be removed surgically. While that prevented him from making the Pegasus World Cup Turf, Wolfe’s Dynaghost has returned to track, “so we’ll map out a campaign for the rest of the year for him,” Lynch said. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
