Dream It Is an easy winner in My Dear Stakes

Ron Gierkink|Jun 24, 2017
Dream It Is
Michael Burns Dream It Is paid $5.20 in winning the My Dear Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Dream It Is ($5.20) justified her favoritism with an authoritative victory in Saturday’s $101,400 My Dear, the first 2-year-old stakes of the Woodbine meet.

Dream It Is tracked the leading Obsolete through an opening quarter of 22.10 in the five-furlong dash for fillies. She assumed command entering the stretch, and then drew off on her left lead to score by 4 3/4 lengths over first-time starter Wild and Funny.

Obsolete faded to third, as Glamanation wound up fourth after running greenly. Unraced Gossip Isle was scratched after getting loose in the warmup, reducing the field size to eight.

Luis Contreras rode Dream It Is for trainer Barb Minshall. The diminutive daughter of Shackleford earned $60,000, and is unbeaten in two starts for Andrew Hudson’s Hoolie Racing Stable.

“She did it very easy,” Contreras said. “It feels great, to ride horses like this. The last time, she broke real sharp and went to the lead. I got her to relax a little (today), and she acted really well for me.”
