Dream Central ($81.50) upsets Cupecoy's Joy

Dream Central was a maiden going into the $150,000 Cupecoy’s Joy division of the New York Stallion Stakes on Sunday. Following a heady ride by Jose Lezcano, she emerged a stakes winner after rallying late to upset the seven-furlong sprint on turf for 3-year-old fillies sired by a stallion standing in New York.
Sent off as the longest shot on the board, she paid $81.50 for her neck victory over Robyn and Eli. The $1 Exacta paid $320.50 with the $.50 Trifecta paying $1,333.00.
Dream Central was last out of the gate, saved ground while moving into striking range heading into the turn, moved off the rail midstretch and came through a narrow opening between Robyn and Eli and Royal Dancer while bumping multiple times with the runner-up.
Robyn and Eli broke a half-step slow from post 10 in the 11-horse field, angled to the rail and followed Dream Central until the middle of the turn, where she moved four wide to find room. She finished well, but could not hold off the final surge from the winner.
Royal Dancer broke alertly from the rail, posted a quick half-mile time of 45.50 seconds while under pressure from Shinful, opened a clear lead in the stretch and held on well to finish a clear third.
The final time over turf rated firm was 1:21.57.
A daughter of Central Banker, Dream Central is trained by Gary Sciacca and owned by Eddie F’s Racing.
