Dream Bigger has 13 opponents in Great White Way

Dream Bigger wins the 2019 Notebook Stakes
Chelsea Durand/NYRA Dream Bigger held for a 1 1/4-length victory in Sunday's Notebook Stakes at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The $500,000 Great White Way Stakes, a division of the New York Stallion Series, drew a full field of 14 2-year-olds when entries were taken Wednesday.

The New York breeders in conjunction with the New York Racing Association raised the purses of the Great White Way and Sunday’s Fifth Avenue Stakes from $150,000 a year ago. Both races, to be run at seven furlongs, are restricted to progeny of stallions based in New York.

Dream Bigger, a son of Mission Impazible, heads the field for the Great White Way. Dream Bigger, won the New York Breeders’ Futurity at Finger Lakes by 10 3/4 lengths in September and came back to win the Notebook Stakes at Aqueduct by 1 1/2 lengths on Nov. 17.

Among Dream Bigger’s main rivals is Captain Bombastic, a son of Forty Tales who is 2 for 2 including a victory in the Sleepy Hollow Stakes at Belmont on Oct. 19. He is trained by Jeremiah Englehart.

The field also includes maiden winners Bank On Shea, Big Package, Chowda, Colormepazzi, Giant Shoes, Hold My Gall, It’s a Risk, Kierkegaard, Moonachie, and Turbo Drive. The maidens Brunate and Tercero were also entered.

◗ Playthatfunnymusic seeks his fourth straight win when he faces six rivals in Friday’s $67,000 second-level New York-bred allowance/optional $40,000 claiming race, which serves as the feature on the eight-race card.

Playthatfunnymusic’s last three victories have come at the $25,000 (twice) or $40,000 claiming level. His stalking style fits this race, he’s drawn on the outside, and will have the services of Eric Cancel, who entered the race week having won with 8 of his previous 32 mounts.

Kosciuszko goes turf to dirt for the third time in his career. He has a win and a second when he’s made that move. He takes blinkers off after finishing last behind big-fig winner Mo Maverick.
