Drayden Van Dyke picks up San Clemente mount on Sircat Sally

DEL MAR, Calif. – Mike Smith will ride Arrogate on Saturday at Del Mar in the San Diego, then hop a red-eye to Saratoga for Abel Tasman in the Coaching Club American Oaks on Sunday. Because he will be away, he cannot ride Sircat Sally in the Grade 2, $200,000 San Clemente Handicap for 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar on Sunday, and thus will be replaced by Drayden Van Dyke.

Besides Van Dyke, the one who makes out best in this arrangement is agent Brad Pegram, who represents Smith as well as Van Dyke.
The San Clemente, run at one mile on turf, should have a fairly large field, one made even bigger on Wednesday when trainer Bob Baffert said he would give Grade 1 winner Noted and Quoted a chance in a grass race following an impressive work on the turf on Monday.
