Dr John H finds his way in Lost in the Fog

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Dr John H looked super blasting maidens in his debut here Nov. 20. The 2-year-old gelded son of Harbor the Gold showed that run was no fluke as he stepped way up in class and prevailed in a four-way photo to take Saturday’s $30,000 Lost in the Fog at Turf Paradise.
Dr John H ($8.40), owned by North American Thoroughbred Racing and trained by Sandi Gann, went right to the lead under Aaron Gryder in the 6 1/2-furlong event for 2-year-olds, dueled with 4-5 favorite Oil Money while well clear of the others, dispatched Oil Money into the lane but then had to fend off a trio of rivals who closed on him late before he won by a nose.
Call Waiting, coming off a second in the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity here Dec. 8 in his first start in five months, stalked and finished well for second, another nose ahead of the rallying Prince Pierce, who was stakes-placed at Prairie Meadows in the summer. Keyson, winner of that Arizona Breeder’s Futurity, also rallied to be just another neck back of Prince Pierce.
Oil Money, the heavy favorite off two romping wins including a stakes at Zia Park in New Mexico last time out, dueled with the winner from the start but paid the price, tiring to sixth in the field of eight.
Dr John H ran the distance in 1:16.91. The winner’s share of $18,042 gives him earnings of $25,637 from two wins in as many starts.
Arizona Juvenile Fillies
Twirling Devon couldn’t get to Senoradiablo when third to that filly in an allowance race here Nov. 27, but the 2-year-old daughter of Twirling Candy turned the tables on that heavy 4-5 favorite in Saturday’s $30,000 Arizona Juvenile Fillies.
Twirling Devon ($9.20), owned by Tim Bankers and trained by Manuel Ortiz, was up close early under Sahin Civaci in the field of six juvenile fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs as Rents Over Due and Magdalena’s Moment dueled on the lead. Twirling Devon pulled back to fourth going down the backstretch to be well behind main rival Senoradiablo in third, advanced on the far turn, but then had to wait for room. Twirling Devon came through between horses to challenge Senoradiablo, was in a bit tight, bumped late with Senoradiablo and prevailed by a neck.
Senoradiablo, the heavy favorite off three straight wins and four wins in five starts over this track, was second. Free My Soul, a maiden winner on turf here Nov. 23, rallied for third another two lengths back.
Twirling Devon ran the distance in 1:16.81. The winner’s share of $18,414 gives her earnings of $41,721 from two wins in five starts.
