Down Town Allen wins fourth straight Sadie Hawkins
Down Town Allen won the $51,200 Sadie Hawkins Stakes for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares at Charles Town for the fourth year in a row Saturday night.
The win was Down Town Allen’s 23rd from 39 career starts and her 22nd at Charles Town. She has won her last 12 starts at Charles Town dating back to June 2012. She paid $4.20 Saturday night, the co-highest of her Charles Town streak. Down Town Allen has now earned $903,387.
Down Town Allen, bred and owned and trained by John A. Casey, went tight to the lead in the seven-furlong Sadie Hawkins under jockey Erick Ramirez, who was subbing for regular rider Matthew McGowan, who was injured this week.
Down Town Allen turned back the pace-pressing Bear’s Lucky Lady on the second turn and drew off to win comfortably by four lengths. She was timed in 1:25.60.
Red Hot Diva, the 17-10 second choice, lagged near the back of the eight-horse field after being forced to check nearing the first turn. She swung wide for the stretch run and was second best while never able to challenge the winner. Dimples finished third, 2 1/2 lengths behind Red Hot Diva.
