Dover: Shartin spectacular in qualifying win
Making her first charted appearance on the track in 2020, Shartin was nothing short of spectacular as she charged home in the stretch for a very comfortable 1:51 3/5 win in a qualifier at Dover Downs on Wednesday morning (2/19).
Shartin sat third about five lengths off leader Highalator through strong fractions of 28 2/5, 55 3/5 and 1:23 2/5 before following loose pocket-sitter Apple Bottom Jeans to the rim on the final turn. In the stretch, without driver and co-owner Tim Tetrick moving a muscle, Shartin saw her target and pounced to win by about a neck over her final turn escort.
Already named Older Pacing Mare of the Year by the United States Harness Writers, Shartin, who is trained by Jim King Jr, is hoping to take home Horse of the Year honors during Sunday night's Dan Patch Awards banquet.
