Dover: Odds-on favorites prevail in DSBF second round

Fotowon Tobago Time won the DSBF final at Harrington in July and will look to do the same thing next week at Dover

Tobago Time ($3.40) vanquished first-round winners Cinder's Baby and Stealing Bases with a 1:56 score in her $20,000 second-round division of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund series for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Wednesday (Dec. 8) at Dover Downs, while fellow odds-on choice Littlebagoftricks ($2.80) captured the other split.

Tobago Time pressed forward out of post four in line to Allan Davis and strung Cinder's Baby (Ross Wolfenden) out through a 26 3/5 first quarter before yielding for a pocket ride. The daughter of Tobago Cays-Time Frame N drafted behind middle sectionals of 56 1/5 and 1:25 2/5, through which Cinder's Baby was significantly softened up by the first-over Stealing Bases (Victor Kirby). Davis angled Tobago Time to the open stretch, and she surged to the lead in the final sixteenth, edging 1 1/2 lengths clear of Cinder's Baby. Stealing Bases narrowly held third over the second-over Roses And Orchids.

Chuck Crissman Jr. trains Tobago Time for breeder David Hamm, who co-owns the eight-time winner with Glenn Phillips.

The earlier division saw Littlebagoftricks and Dexter Dunn launch a first-over bid out of fourth with three-eighths to go, push clear of early pace-setter Seboomook Beauty (Corey Callahan) midway on the far turn, and evade a charge from runner-up Hey Hey Dbay (Kirby) - who chased the winner's cover through the far turn - by 2 3/4 lengths to win in 1:56 2/5. Trainer Josh Green shares ownership in the Roddy's Bags Again-Bit Of Trick filly, a winner in 10 of 16 career starts to date, with Rich Lombardo Racing LLC. Green Racing Inc. is the winning breeder.

First-round winners Cinder's Baby and Stealing Bases and second-round winners Tobago Time and Littlebagoftricks all earned berths to next Thursday's (Dec. 16) $100,000 DSBF final, as did Hey Hey Dbay, Roses And Orchids, Seboomook Beauty and It's Turtle Time.

Three-year-old pacing colts and geldings contest the second preliminary round of their DSBF series Thursday (Dec. 9), squaring off in races one, two and four on the 14-race card. First post is 4:30 p.m. EST.
