Dandy Ideal and Unreasonable returned to the winner's circle following the Matrons for 3-year-old pacers of both sexes on Thursday night at Bally's Dover. The colts and geldings raced for $149,350 and Hunter Oakes-trained Dandy Ideal (Jason Bartlett) got around Captain Optimistic (Scott Zeron) for the front in a 26 2/5 quarter. From there, Dandy Ideal got to the half in 55 2/5 and the three-quarters in 1:22 4/5 while Madden Oaks (Braxten Boyd) made an unsuccessful first-over move. In the last quarter, Dandy Ideal paced home in 27 2/5 to defeat Captain Optimistic by three-quarters of a length in 1:50 1/5, while Fusion (Dexter Dunn) was third. Fusion was followed by Prince Hal Hanover (Todd McCarthy) and Papi's Rocket (Tim Tetrick). "He'd been off three weeks and it's a little bit cooler night, but he showed his class once again. He's been underestimated all year, and he just keeps proving me and Hunter right," said Bartlett. "He's a great horse, and this put him over a million dollars tonight. Hunter's done an extremely godd job managing him all year long, keeping him fresh and that's why we're here tonight." Oakes sent out Dandy Ideal, an American Ideal gelding, for owners Susan Oakes, Thaddeus Wier and Alan Johnston. Bred by Dr. Stephen Dey III with Dandy Farms Inc., he has a summary of 15-5-2 from 27 outings, has pocketed $1,031,479 and paid $3.20 to win. "Like Jason said he's just a great horse and a lot of credit to Jason, he's done a great job handling him all year," Oakes added. "We've been able to kind of duck and dodge a lot of real good horses sticking in New York. Whenever he's had a chance to go against the top colts, he's proved himself. "If a horse gets to him, he just wants to dig. He's got a ton of class so he did what he had to do tonight and got the job done." ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter The $130,350 filly event saw Champagne Room (Yannick Gingras) charge to the top from post eight in a 26 4/5 quarter, and then she yielded to sit behind a two-wide The Last Martini (Doug McNair) past that marker. The Last Martini came to a walk on the way to the 57 3/5 half and caused confusion to the remainder of the field, which briefly put the cover flow that was led by Asphalt (Tetrick) three-wide. Asphalt and The Last Martini continued to duel to three-quarters in 1:25 1/5 before Rodeo Drive Deo (David Miller) went three-wide from second-over on the final bend, followed by Unreasonable (Marcus Miller). Rodeo Drive Deo vaulted into the lead at the top of the lane and set sail for home, but Unreasonable rallied to Rodeo Drive Deo's outside and went by her en route to a half-length tally in 1:53 1/5. The Last Martini crossed the wire third but was placed last, elevating Champagne Room to third, Strutsville (Ridge Warren) to fourth and Gigglingonthebeach (Andy McCarthy) to fifth. "There was a lot of action into the first quarter. I think (The Last Martini) pulled up a little bit or had a little trouble there around the turn and kind of bunched us up," Marcus Miller said post-race. "I was real okay with everything in the first turn and then got pretty nervous around the second one, but I had the right helmet to follow. David towed me right up to it, so it worked out good in the end. "She's just a really nice horse. I don't have to worry about much with her." A daughter of Huntsville bred by Steve Stewart with Frank Chick, Unreasonable is trained by Erv Miller and co-owned by him with partner David J. Miller. She has 11 wins, five seconds and five thirds from 26 efforts, has put away $720,884 and returned $6.20 to win.
