Dover: DSBF late closer final won by Night Terror
?q=100)
Night Terror romped in the $51,900 DSBF late closer final for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers at Bally's Dover on Thursday night.
Night Terror, the 1-2 betting favorite, showed off his quick early speed and reached the lead easily. Notte's Mist settled in the pocket and the rest followed single-file. Night Terror reached the opening quarter in 27 3/5, and after that, driver Allan Davis backed the half to a moderate 57 seconds.
The outside tier would then get in motion heading down the backstretch as Delightinhisglory surged first-over. He was followed by Ajayi, who was in perfect position to pounce from second-over, and Gaitway Guy tracked Ajayi from third-over.
However, Night Terror rebuffed the challenges and continued confidently on the lead, reaching the three-quarters in 1:25. At the top of the stretch, Nottes's Mist charged from out of the pocket after saving ground, but that bid stalled out as well as Night Terror won in-hand in 1:52 4/5, defeating Notte's Mist by 1 1/2 lengths. It was a lifetime mark for the winner, who paid $3 to win.
