Dover: Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund action continues
Three divisions of 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers led off the week in the second leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund series on Monday (Nov. 16) at Dover Downs.
The first of two non-wagering events went to Z's Dream (Dream Away-Eastwood Aurora N) in 1:56 4/5, making it two in a row for owner Leonard Hubbard and trainer Andrew Stafford. Z's Dream was driven by Andrew's brother, Art Stafford Jr. Downtown Show was second, followed by Marvelous Winner in third.
The second non-wagering event was won by owner, trainer, and breeder Brenda Teague's Mr Overbite (Southwind Lynx-Hustle Hard) for his maiden win in 1:57 4/5 while being parked from the half for driver Tony Morgan. Brenda's nephew, Montrell, was "second right there" with Can't Get Right, followed by Squeak On By in third.
The third division was the first half of the daily double on the pari-mutuel card, and it was all Henrico (Delmarvalous-Blue Moon Artist), as he scored his third straight victory for co-owner/trainer Clyde Francis and co-owner MST Racing. He was driven by Tony Morgan to a new lifetime record of 1:54 1/5. Second was Subban, followed by First State Joni in third.
The top eight point earners (in point order) will return for a $100,000 final on Thanksgiving eve (Nov. 25). They are Henrico, Z's Dream, Marvelous Winner, Mr Overbite, Subban, Downtown Show, Justflirtingwithu, and Mister Ramsey.
