Boerne became a stakes winner when she led throughout for a 1 3/4-length win over Estilo Talentoso in the $75,000 Azalea.

Both races were for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs. The Carry Back was run on a good track that was sealed. The Azalea, for fillies, was run on a sloppy, sealed track.

Double Crown ($3.60) tracked dueling leaders Cajun Brother and Poe through fractions of 22.59 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.42 for the half-mile. The eventual winner took over from there, going on to cover the distance in 1:22.32.

Cristian Torres was aboard for trainer Kathy Ritvo.

Double Crown is a son of Bourbon Courage owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing. He came into the Carry Back off a victory in the $75,000 Roar in May at Gulfstream. Double Crown has now won 3 of 4 starts and the first-place check of $46,500 Saturday pushed his earnings to $130,365.

Boerne ($3.40) broke on top and set fractions of 23.13 seconds for the opening quarter, 45.35 for the half-mile and 1:09.24 for six furlongs. She went on to cover the distance in 1:22.17.

Boerne drifted in the stretch and following the race Samy Camacho, who rode Estilo Talentoso, claimed foul against the winner. There also was a stewards’ inquiry into the stretch run, but ultimately no change was made to the order of finish.

Edgard Zayas was aboard Boerne for trainer Juan C. Avila.

Boerne has now won four of her last five starts. Overall, she is 4 for 6 and the first-place check of $46,500 on Saturday upped her earnings to $137,630. Boerne is a daughter of Fed Biz who races for De Luca and Sons Stable.
