Dotted Line a $100 winner in Frost King Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Dotted Line, the longest shot in the nine-horse field, handed the favored shipper Artie’s Princess her first loss while capturing Saturday’s $100,400 Frost King Stakes in a gritty performance at Woodbine.
Dotted Line ($100.40) stalked along the inside in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds, as Artie’s Princess dueled with Rockcrest through quick fractions. Rockcrest began to fade inside the quarter pole, and Dotted Line got through along the rail before duking it out with Artie’s Princess to the wire. Dotted Line won by a neck in a time of 1:22.25.
It was another 6 1/4 lengths back to Torpedo Max, who nosed out Crafty Conquest for third. Owlette was scratched.
Justin Stein got a leg up from trainer Sid Attard on Dotted Line, who ran for a $40,000 claiming price in each of his three previous outings, capped by a maiden-winning performance on Oct. 13.
“Sid wanted me to ride him with confidence,” Stein said. “I had tons of confidence in the horse, and he proved himself for us today. When he burst through the hole just inside the quarter pole, I hooked up with [Artie’s Princess], and he was digging in. He was giving me everything he had. He was in his own horse race against that filly, and didn’t want to let her by.”
Dotted Line earned $60,000 for Howard Walton’s Norseman Racing Stable, which campaigned his sire, Signature Red.
