HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Dothraki Queen showed immediate talent last year at 2, romping in her career debut on turf and winning the Grade 2 Pocahontas one start later at Churchill Downs. She’s now gearing up for her 3-year-old season, and one potential race on her calendar is the Grade 3, $400,000 Fantasy at her Oaklawn Park base April 9, said trainer Ken McPeek. Dothraki Queen’s season last year also included a runner-up effort in the Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland and a third-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She also was elevated to third in the Grade 2 Golden Rod in her finale Nov. 28 at Churchill. She had her first published work of the year Feb. 13, breezing three-eighths in 37 seconds at Oaklawn. “Dothraki Queen just went into a work routine,” McPeek said. “She’ll be working likely every six or seven days. We’ll probably not run her until later in March or April, possibly in the Fantasy. At some point, I’d like to get her on the grass again. Her only turf race was a really impressive win. We’ll probably nominate to some of the major European grass races.” Dothraki Queen was a seven-length winner of a maiden special weight race at a mile on turf in her career debut last July at Ellis Park. She then moved to dirt for the Pocahontas and remained on the surface for the balance of the year. McPeek said a goal for Dothraki Queen this season is a Grade 1 win, and he is debating her campaign path in light of the dominance being shown by champion and division leader Songbird. “I was a little bit intimidated watching Songbird run,” McPeek said. “I’m not sure if she’s on her game that everyone’s [not] running for second. Our goal is to win a Grade 1. At some point, we might have to go an alternate direction from Songbird.” Dothraki Queen is a daughter of Pure Prize, and her dam, Sharaiji Blossom, is a half-sister to Kentucky Oaks winner Blushing K.D. Dothraki Queen is owned by Magdalena Racing. McPeek has another quality 3-year-old filly at Oaklawn in Dorodansa, who finished third in the $100,000 Martha Washington here Feb. 6. She was a maiden special weight winner last fall at Keeneland. “We were pleased with her Martha Washington,” said McPeek. “She’ll likely come back in the Honeybee, but that’s not set in stone yet. She’s a nice filly that’s improving right now.” The Grade 3 Honeybee, which recently received a purse boost to $200,000, will be run March 12. Dorodansa is a daughter of Bellamy Road who races for Iron Oaks Farm.
