Dortmund, Prospect Park work for Santa Anita Derby

Dortmund and Prospect Park had their final workouts Saturday for the $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 4.
Dortmund, considered a top prospect for the Triple Crown, worked six furlongs in 1:11.60. Earlier in the morning, Prospect Park worked five furlongs in 1:01.20.
Dortmund, trained by Bob Baffert, worked in company with a stablemate, who took an early lead.
“I sent a horse out there in front of him as a target,” Baffert said.
Ridden by jockey Martin Garcia, Dortmund caught the stablemate and “galloped out strong,” Baffert said. “He went well. All systems go.”
Baffert said he timed Dortmund in 59.20 seconds for five furlongs, 1:11.40 for six furlongs, and galloping out seven furlongs in “1:24 and change.”
Dortmund has won three stakes in his five-race career for owner Kaleem Shah and will be favored in the Santa Anita Derby.
Prospect Park worked alone and was ridden by jockey Alonso Quinonez. Prospect Park galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.80, according to trainer Clifford Sise.
Sise said Prospect Park worked the opening quarter-mile in 25.40 seconds and the final quarter-mile in 23.40.
“He just eased into it,” Sise said of the workout.
Quinonez was substituting for jockey Kent Desormeaux, who is riding at Fair Grounds on Saturday.
Owned by breeders Marty and Pam Wygod, Prospect Park is the likely second choice in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby at 1 1/8 miles. Dortmund and Prospect Park were first and second in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita on March 7, Prospect Park’s stakes debut.
Other candidates for the Santa Anita Derby are Bad Read Sanchez, Bolo, Cross the Line, and One Lucky Dane.
