Dornoch to target Remsen

OZONE PARK, N.Y. — Dornoch, the half-brother to Kentucky Derby winner Mage who won a maiden race at Keeneland last month, is back in New York and targeting the Grade 2, $250,000 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct on Dec. 2.
Dornoch, trained by Danny Gargan, worked a half-mile in 49.74 seconds last Friday over the Belmont Park training track.
“He looked like he was walking and he still went in 49-and-three,” Gargan said. “He’s still green and figuring it out. He’s going to get better.”

Dornoch, by Good Magic, finished second on debut on July 29 at Saratoga. He came back in the Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park and finished second to Noted. On Oct. 14, stretched out to two turns at Keeneland, Dornoch won his maiden by 6 1/2 lengths. He ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.00 and earned an 87 Beyer Speed Figure.
“The most impressive thing was when he switched leads at the wire and the way he galloped out,” Gargan said. “I don’t think the mile and an eighth will be any problem.”
Gargan will also run the filly Ringy Dingy in the Grade 2, $250,000 Demoiselle Stakes for juvenile fillies.
Ringy Dingy, a full sister to the Grade 1 winner Defunded, is 2 for 3. She finished fifth in her debut at Saratoga before coming back to win a maiden race at Aqueduct and then won the White Clay Creek Stakes at Delaware Park on Oct. 13.
“She broke, sat last, came up the rail, and won pretty easy,” Gargan said. “She didn’t get a good number, but she ran good.”
