Doinghardtimeagain among 7 expected for Great Lady M.

CYPRESS, Calif. - Doinghardtimeagain, a four-time stakes winner who was last of five in the Desert Stormer Stakes at Santa Anita last month, will start in Saturday’s $200,000 Great Lady M. Stakes at Los Alamitos, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.
The Grade 2 Great Lady M. Stakes is run over 6 1/2 furlongs and is the top race for females at the track’s two-week summer meeting for Thoroughbreds.
Owned by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, Doinghardtimeagain raced near the front in the Desert Stormer on June 15 but drifted wide on the turn and faded to finish 9 1/2 lengths behind upset winner Sagebrush Queen. Hollendorfer said he was at a loss to explain why Doinghardtimeagain drifted out. He described her recent training as “very nice, otherwise we wouldn’t consider a tough race like that.”
The Great Lady M. Stakes has a projected field of seven, including the stakes winners Amaranth, Concave, Heir Kitty, and Sagebrush Queen; the stakes-placed Clearly Confused; and Tres Belle, the winner of allowance races at Churchill Downs in April and May.
Sagebrush Queen won her stakes debut in the Desert Stormer, closing from third in a field of five to record a 16-1 upset.
“She definitely has to improve,” trainer Jorge Gutierrez said. “She came back from that race and looks good. She’s a late-running sprinter. I think it will work for her. She doesn’t have to be that far out of it.”
Sunday is the final day of the Los Alamitos meeting, with two $100,000 races for juveniles over six furlongs – the W.L. Proctor Memorial Stakes and the Cinderella Stakes for fillies.
