SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Elizabeth Dobles will make her Saratoga debut as a trainer with Vow to Recover in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Lake Placid Stakes, but she is no stranger to the Spa. Dobles previously worked for trainer Jeremiah Englehart. “It was before he went big time, but I was there for a few winners,” Dobles said Wednesday from Florida. :: Get PPs, Clocker Reports, picks, and more from DRF's Saratoga/Del Mar One-Stop Shop Vow to Recover has given Dobles two of her three career stakes wins. She felt Vow to Recover was unlucky not to win the Martha Washington Stakes on July 6 at Gulfstream. That day, under jockey Jairo Rendon, Vow to Recover was stuck behind horses in the stretch and didn’t find running room until it was too late, finishing fourth, beaten three lengths. “I think if she would have gotten a clear trip she would have won,” Dobles said. “It’s just part of racing. Nine out of 10 times, the rail is going to open up. There’s that one time it’s not, which unfortunately is what happened.” Vow to Recover, a daughter of Broken Vow, won the Honey Ryder Stakes two starts back at the Lake Placid distance of 1 1/16 miles. Manny Franco will ride Vow to Recover on Saturday. The Lake Placid is topped by Regal Glory and Blowout, the one-two finishers from the three-horse Lake George Stakes when all the starters were trained by Chad Brown. Also entered in the Lake Placid are Amandrea, Feel Glorious, Varenka, and Wildlife, the latter a supplemental nomination from the barn of Vickie Oliver.
