Do the Danse alters tactics to win Juan Gonzelez Memorial

Do the Danse, who won her debut here on June 20 with a stalking trip, captured the $65,320 Juan Gonzalez Memorial Stakes in front-running style Saturday at the Oak Tree at Pleasanton meeting at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

Do the Danse ( $9.40) won a five-way drag race down the backstretch in the 5 1/2-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies, running the opening quarter in 21.75 seconds. She sat back behind slower fractions in her debut and raced gamely in the lane to win by a neck.

Do the Danse shook clear on the turn and had a three-length lead in the lane. She was never challenged in the stretch. Winning jockey Russell Baze tapped her five times down the lane to keep her attention as she won by three lengths in 1:04.36.

Myrna Lou was second all the way down the lane, winning a three-way photo for second with Princess Bertrando a nose behind her and Sea Mona fourth another nose back. The favored Go to the Alter was fifth.

A Tommy Town Thoroughbreds homebred trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Do the Danse is now 2 for 2. She won $42,400 to increase her bankroll to $58,650.

The Cal-bred filly is bred to win early. Her sire, Kafwain ,won two graded stakes and was second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile . Her dam, Big City Danse was stakes-placed at 2 and was the daughter of five-time stakes winner Big City Bound, who won her only start at 2.
