Divine Miss Grey triumphs in three-horse Penny Memorial

Divine Miss Grey became a graded stakes winner Saturday at Parx Racing, where she won the three-horse Dr. James Penny Memorial.
The Grade 3, $200,000 race was meant for turf but was instead run on a sloppy main track. There were four scratches, led by Grade 3 winner Dream Awhile.
Divine Miss Grey ($2.20), who had been entered for the main track only, led throughout for a 7 3/4-length victory over Truth in the Lies. It was another 3 1/2 lengths back to Care Lady.
The Penny Memorial was originally carded in July, but was not run after extreme heat forced its postponement.
Divine Miss Grey set fractions of 23.81 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.51 for the half-mile, and 1:11.88 for six furlongs before going on to cover the 1 1/16 miles on a sealed track in 1:43.49 and getting a 91 Beyer Speed Figure.
Junior Alvarado was aboard for trainer Danny Gargan.
Divine Miss Grey was winning the fourth stakes race of her career. She picked up $120,000 for the victory, her 10th career win from 20 starts. Divine Miss Grey now has career earnings of $603,672. She is a daughter of Divine Park and races for Corms Racing Stable and R A Hill Stable.
Divine Miss Grey is entered in the $100,000 Royal Delta on Sunday at Belmont Park, but is not expected to run after her win at Parx. She came into the Penny Memorial off a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Molly Pitcher at Monmouth Park and both the winner from that race, Berned, and the runner-up, Dreamcall, are entered in the Royal Delta.
In the Penny Memorial, there was no show wagering after the scratches, which also included Lift Up, Mythical Mission, and Stormy Victoria.
