Diva's Rule in a running kind of mood for Miranda Diane Stakes

Dustin Orona Photography Diva's Rule, who won the Bob Barry Memorial on turf, returns to dirt for the Miranda Diane.

The first stakes race of the Will Rogers Downs meet goes Monday with a full field of 12 fillies and mares signed on for the $50,000 Miranda Diane. The group includes Fiddlers Tsunami and Another Bond Girl – the one-two finishers in the allowance prep – as well as Double Bee Sting, winner of last year’s Minnesota Oaks.

The Miranda Diane also has drawn stakes winner Diva’s Rule – who is aptly named.

“She runs whenever she wants,” trainer Francisco Bravo said. “She’s temperamental. No disrespect, but she’s very feminine in that respect.”

As a rule, Diva’s Rule shows up. She is 8 for 22 and will be returning to dirt, the surface of her best Beyer Speed Figure, after three straight races on turf.

Miranda Diane (Race 9)

KEY CONTENDERS

Diva’s Rule, by Roman Ruler

(Last 3 Beyers: 69-79-82)

◗ She has been working sharply at Will Rogers for her second start off a layoff in the Miranda Diane. Diva’s Rule turned a bullet five-eighths in 1:00.60 in her final prep March 21, and before that logged another bullet, in 1:00.80, on March 4.

“She’s a very versatile filly,” Bravo said. “She’s done well running short, running long, on the turf, dirt, so I feel pretty good about her.”

◗ Diva’s Rule popped a career-high Beyer of 88 when winning a main-track allowance in July at Canterbury. She spent her fall on the turf, winning the Bob Barry Memorial by four lengths in September at Remington Park, then finishing third in the track’s Oklahoma Classics Turf Distaff in October.

◗ Diva’s Rule will break from post 5.

“She’s going to want to be closer to the front,” Bravo said. “What would be ideal is somebody takes the lead and we lay off of them.”

◗ Larren Delorme has the mount for owner Michael Grossman.

Fiddlers Tsunami, by Seeking a Home

(Last 3 Beyers: 82-75-62)

◗ She captured the allowance prep for the Miranda Diane on March 12. Fiddlers Tsunami stalked the pace and went on to a 3 1/4-length win while covering six furlongs in 1:09.91.

◗ Kevin Roman has the mount for Blue Moon Stables and trainer Jody Pruitt.

Another Bond Girl, by Don’t Get Mad

(Last 3 Beyers: 74-71-77)

◗ She was second in the allowance prep won by Fiddlers Tsunami. The start came one race after Another Bond Girl won an allowance at six furlongs at Sam Houston.

◗ Another Bond Girl will break from the rail for trainer Brent Davidson, who co-bred and owns the mare with William Higgins.
