District Attorney well rested entering sprint feature
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Fresh horses can be effective at this stage of the long Woodbine meet, and District Attorney fits the bill in Friday’s headliner, a non-winners-of-three combo race for Ontario-sired allowance runners and $40,000 claimers.
District Attorney runs with a $40,000 tag in the six-furlong Polytrack event for fillies and mares. She just missed following a five-month layoff in her May 1 season opener. After a fifth-place finish going long May 16, she romped in a $40,000 non-winners-of-two sprint after racing five lengths off a lively early pace.
Most recently July 22, District Attorney missed the break before closing belatedly to finish sixth in a non-winners-of-three turf sprint. The unbeaten winner of that race, Conquest Strate Up, subsequently took the La Prevoyante Stakes.
Seven other fillies and mares were entered in the feature, which is the sixth on a nine-race program.
KEY CONTENDERS
District Attorney (Last 3 Beyers: 62-71-48)
◗ Jesse Campbell was aboard for her last triumph. He will get a leg up from trainer Troy Wismer, who’s had a productive meet, winning at a 26 percent clip.
Sweet Super Six (Last 3 Beyers: 77-65-35)
◗ She prevailed in a front-end battle before barely winning the war in a seven-furlong allowance a month ago, which came on the heels of a second to Quidi Vidi in another turf sprint.
◗ Her Polytrack form is spotty, but she figures to be a speed threat with leading rider Eurico Da Silva retaining the mount for trainer Mike De Paulo.
Trip Over the Line (Beyers: 69-69)
◗ She found the mark in each of her outings in June against Ontario-sired stock before going to the sidelines. The Paul Buttigieg homebred has worked quickly of late, including five furlongs in a bullet 59.80 seconds on Sept. 11.
Indiantown Sunrise (Last 3 Beyers: 64-44-73)
◗ The 3-year-old placed in the Victorian Queen Stakes before completing her 2-year-old campaign with an Ontario-sired allowance score.
◗ Following a five-month absence Sept. 12, she faded to third after pressing the pace in an open, first-level allowance in her first start for trainer Jim Ensom. Her previous trainer, Pat Parente, is serving a suspension.
Virreina (Last 3 Beyers: 68-63-54)
◗ She has been a minor player on turf and Polytrack at this level, which makes her a logical prospect for the bottom of exotic wagers.
Glorious Moment (Last 3 Beyers: 61-68-60)
◗ She’s stepping up off a $20,000 claim and a third behind Blurricane and Weekend in Malibu, who came back to beat non-winners-of-three rivals with ease.
