Distractedprincess stays perfect with 6 1/2-length allowance score

ARCADIA, Calif. – The 4-year-old filly Distractedprincess remained undefeated after two starts with an easy win in an allowance race at a mile at Santa Anita on Sunday.
Distractedprincess has won two starts by a combined 19 1/2 lengths despite showing a lack of experience on Sunday, according to winning rider John Velazquez. Distractedprincess led throughout and pulled clear by 6 1/2 lengths, but raced in an erratic manner entering the stretch while leading comfortably.
“She got a little quirky and drifted out and I had to make her pay attention,” Velazquez said.
Velazquez gave Distractedprincess a few reminders late. Distractedprincess ($2.60) led by two lengths with a quarter-mile remaining and by five lengths in the stretch.
“Hopefully, she can figure it out,” Velazquez said. “She’s definitely a really nice horse.”
Distractedprincess set an early pace of 24.11 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 48.65 for a half-mile, holding an advantage of a half-length over 18-1 Eyes Open, who faded in early stretch. Distractedprincess finished in 1:39.09 on a main track that produced slow times. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 93.
Distractedprincess won her debut by 13 lengths in a maiden special weight race at seven furlongs on Dec. 31, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 86.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Distractedprincess is by Distorted Humor and is out of Public Princess, a Brazilian-bred mare who won two Group 1 races in Brazil as well as the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes at a mile on turf at Hollywood Park in 2011 in her final career start.
Distractedprincess, who races for Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman, was purchased for $385,000 as a yearling in 2019.
