Distance of turf allowance suits My Sistersledge

My Sistersledge wins the 2017 Maryland Million Ladies Stakes
Jim Duley/Maryland Jockey Club My Sistersledge (No. 6) wins the Maryland Million Ladies in October.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – My Sistersledge gets a little more ground Friday at Gulfstream Park, which would seem to be in her favor. The 4-year-old Maryland-bred filly was moving fastest of all at the end of her last race here.

“She just ran out of racetrack,” said Mike Trombetta, who trains My Sistersledge for her breeders, Cheryl and John Banner.

Making the third start of her form cycle after getting a short break following a victory in the Oct. 21 Maryland Million Ladies, My Sistersledge will try to get through her second allowance condition in the Friday feature, a $52,000 race going a mile on turf. That’s a sixteenth of a mile farther than when she finished third, beaten just a head for second by Noble Ready, in a 7 1/2-furlong race won by Island Reward here Jan. 31.

“She came with a pretty good run that day,” said Trombetta, the longtime Maryland veteran who has campaigned a string of about 15 horses in south Florida for the past 15 winters or so. “I took a quick look at this race Friday, and it looks very competitive. There’s a bit of speed in there, which should help us.”

My Sistersledge will have Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado aboard when breaking from post 5 in a field of no more than seven fillies and mares in the 10th of 11 races. First post is 12:35 p.m. Eastern, with the feature set for 5:08.

Nobly Ready, with Tyler Gaffalione to ride, will break from post 3 as a top challenger, along with Psalmody (post 1, Javier Castellano) and Lido (post 2, Luis Saez). Princess Victoria, the lone main-track-only designate, is an eighth entry.

The feature is part of the 20-cent Rainbow 6, which spans races 6-11 and gets started at 3:05. The Rainbow 6 jackpot rollover stood at nearly $1.2 million when a five-day week began here Wednesday. Through Monday, the Rainbow 6 had not been swept by a solo winner since a huge pool was dispersed Jan. 28.

One other $52,000, second-level allowance is on tap Friday. Carded as race 5 (post 2:35), it drew six older horses going seven furlongs on the main track, with Abounding Legacy and Yourdreamsormine both meriting consideration when entered for an optional $50,000 claiming tag. The race also marks the 4-year-old debuts of Impressive Edge and Tyler U.
