Distaff upsetter Shidabhuti may run back in Ruffian

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – As part of an eight-win day at four tracks Saturday, Chad Brown won two stakes at Aqueduct with Shidabhuti upsetting the Grade 3, $169,750 Distaff Stakes and Reasoned Analysis doing the same in the $175,000 Bay Shore Stakes.
Shidabhuti, who hadn’t run since finishing eighth in the Monmouth Oaks on July 29, was entered in an allowance race that didn’t fill, so Brown wound up supplementing her to the Distaff.
“I didn’t see her winning off the layoff, but she got a nice duel and she took advantage of it,” Brown said. “She’s a nice horse, and the time off did her well.”
Shidabhuti, who earned an 88 Beyer Speed Figure for the win, will be considered for the Grade 2, $200,000 Ruffian Stakes on May 4 at Aqueduct.

Reasoned Analysis won the Bay Shore at 15-1 and upset, among others, the Brown-trained Proprietary Trade, the 2-1 favorite who finished seventh.
Brown credited his New York-assistant Dan Stupp with suggesting he run Reasoned Analysis based on the way the horse had been training at Belmont Park.
“Good call,” Brown said.
Brown said that he may have run Proprietary Trade back too soon following his big-figured maiden win March 7.
