Disqualification gives Kaely's Brother victory in Jean Lafitte

Kaely’s Brother became a stakes winner Saturday when he was placed first in the $100,000 Jean Lafitte Stakes at Delta Downs following the disqualification of Waita Minute Hayes.
The one-mile race was for 2-year-olds.
Waita Minute Hayes rallied from off the pace to cross the wire 2 1/2 lengths in front of Kaely’s Brother, who finished second. It was another head back in third to Vodka Gimlet.
Following the race, Timothy Thornton, who rode Kaely’s Brother, claimed foul against Waita Minute Hayes, who drifted in during the stretch drive as Kaely’s Brother appeared to check. The stewards disqualified Waita Minute Hayes and placed him second in an action that elevated Kaely’s Brother.
Waita Minute Hayes covered the distance on a fast track in 1:41.40.
Kaely’s Brother, a Brad Cox trainee who won his maiden at Keeneland, returned $3.20. He now has a 2-for-3 record for earnings of $110,737. Kaely’s Brother is a son of Twirling Candy who races for his breeder, Dean Maltzman.
