Disco Time could head to Dwyer following comeback victory

Coady Media Off his victory in the St. Louis Derby, Disco Time could start next in the Dywer at Aqueduct.

Disco Time has won stakes in Illinois and Louisiana and might soon land on the East Coast.

The unbeaten 3-year-old could be headed to New York next month for the $200,000 Dwyer at Aqueduct on Nov. 8, according to his trainer, Brad Cox.

Disco Time, who is based in Kentucky, has come under consideration for the one-mile race following his win in the $250,000 St. Louis Derby on Sept. 19 at Fairmount Park.

Disco Time’s win in the St. Louis Derby came in his first start since January, when he captured the Grade 3 Lecomte at Fair Grounds. Disco Time was freshened following the start, Cox said. For his comeback race, he popped a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 102.

“He’s had one work since and we’re thinking about the Dwyer with him,” Cox said Monday.

Disco Time breezed a half-mile in 48.40 seconds Oct. 6 at Churchill Downs.

In the St. Louis Derby, he set the pace, then powered home by 5 1/2 lengths under regular rider Florent Geroux.

“He was training like he’d run big, and you know, I thought he ran even bigger than expected,” Cox said. “He got some really good figures. We’re going to give him plenty of time out of that race.

“Good numbers off a layoff like that, you’ve got to make sure you give them plenty of time. Like I said, he’s had the one work since and it was a really good breeze. Overall, he came back really well this fall.”

Disco Time, who is now 4 for 4, is a son of Not This Time who races for his breeder, Juddmonte. His dam is Disco Chick, a multiple stakes winner of more than $700,000.
