Disco Partner retired, will stand at Rockridge Stud in New York

Millionaire and North American record-setter Disco Partner has been retired to his home state and will begin a stallion career at Rockridge Stud in Hudson, N.Y., in 2020.

Disco Partner, a New York-bred Disco Rico horse, raced as a homebred for Patricia Generazio and retires with a career record of 33-11-6-8 for earnings of more than $1.4 million. The 7-year-old retires after going winless in five starts this year, most recently finishing fifth in the Belmont Turf Sprint Invitational on Oct. 5.

Disco Partner won seven stakes, with his best season of racing coming in 2017 as he scored in the Grade 3 Jaipur Invitational at Belmont Park and added the Belmont Turf Sprint Invitational, Forbidden Apple Stakes, and Elusive Quality Stakes at the same track. He sizzled six furlongs in 1:05.67 on the Belmont turf course to win the Jaipur, establishing a North American record. The following season, Disco Partner repeated in the Jaipur, then upgraded to a Grade 2, and the Belmont Turf Sprint.

Disco Partner placed in 12 other stakes, including third-place finishes in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar and 2018 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs, both won by Stormy Liberal. He made two other appearances in the Jaipur, finishing second by a neck in the 2016 edition to stablemate Pure Sensation and finishing third in this year’s renewal, now a Grade 1 event.

“I believe Disco Partner is a very exciting prospect for New York breeders,” trainer Christophe Clement said in a press release. “He had a tremendous amount of speed, and speed is always dangerous. He also had a fantastic turn of foot, and he’s retiring perfectly sound after consistently racing for many years at the highest level.”
