OZONE PARK, N.Y. – An issue that turned out to be minor forced trainer Butch Reid to scratch Disco Ebo from last weekend’s $120,000 Garland of Roses Stakes at Aqueduct. Fortunately, Disco Ebo is eligible for a multi-conditioned allowance race here Sunday that serves as the feature on Aqueduct’s nine-race card. Disco Ebo is eligible for this race because none of her four wins this year yielded at least $60,000 in purse money. “I didn’t realize she was eligible,” Reid said Friday. “[The racing office] called me up and here we are.” A suspected foot issue that turned out to be minor was why Reid scratched Disco Ebo from the Dec. 9 Garland of Roses. Disco Ebo was good enough to breeze a half-mile in 49.60 seconds on Tuesday for this spot. Disco Ebo ended her 3-year-old campaign with a third in the Garland of Roses last December. This year, she won two allowance races plus the $75,000 Penns Landing Stakes at Parx before finishing second to stablemate Morning Matcha in the Unique Bella Stakes at Parx on April 24. Morning Matcha won the Statue of Liberty division of the New York Stallion Series here on Dec. 3. Disco Ebo was given a break following the April race and came off a six-month layoff to win a seven-furlong allowance at Parx on Oct. 31. “I was ecstatic with that,” Reid said. “We had to give her the summer off with a foot issue. I wanted a three-quarter race but I couldn’t get one and I was pleasantly surprised how she did at seven-eighths.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Sunday’s race is at six furlongs and Disco Ebo, who will be ridden by Frankie Pennington from post 2, will have to avoid a speed duel with Quick Munny, drawn to her inside with Kendrick Carmouche aboard. Quick Munny is coming off a pair of second-place finishes in allowance company for trainer Rob Atras. The beneficiary of a potential speed duel would be Rachel’s Rock, who won her second-level allowance condition here on Nov. 24 from off the pace. The Carlos David trainee earned a career-best 85 Beyer Speed Figure for the performance. Mosienko shortens up to six furlongs after finishing last of six going a mile, while Secret Love makes her first start since finishing sixth of seven in the Correction Stakes in March. Sunday’s eighth race is a first-level allowance for males going a mile where a trio of New York-breds – Drake’s Passage, Maker’s Candy, and Daddy Knows – look to be the top contenders. Though Drake’s Passage won the Albany Stakes going 1 1/8 miles in August, he is 2 for 2 at one mile, including a maiden win here last December. “We don’t think it makes that much difference between the mile and the mile and an eighth even if it might be a different race,” said Christophe Lorieul, the Belmont Park-based assistant to Christophe Clement. “He can do both probably.” Daddy Knows won came off a five-month layoff to run fourth in this condition behind Aggregation, who earned a 100 Beyer Speed Figure for that performance. Maker’s Candy won a second-level New York-bred allowance by 6 3/4 lengths going a mile here on Nov. 4. Following Sunday’s card, racing on this circuit is dark until Dec. 28. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
