Digger runs away from rivals

Joe DeVivo|Sep 15, 2007
Digger ($3) proved his big-figure win in his last start was no fluke when he cruised to his first career stakes victory in the $50,000 Deputed Testamony at Laurel Park.

Running for a $75,000 claiming tag at Saratoga last month, the 3-year-old Digger had improved his career-best Beyer Speed Figure 17 points to a 101. But instead of bouncing off that performance, Digger came back to dominate seven other Maryland-bred 3-year-olds in the one-turn mile, finishing 11 3/4 lengths in front of runner-up Roaring Lion, a horse he lost to in last December's Maryland Juvenile Championship. P V Lightening was third.

Ridden by Horatio Karamanos for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr., Digger covered the distance in 1:35.23.
