LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ignacio Correas has been down this road before. The 63-year-old Argentine native has another hot prospect from his native land in Didia, who was given a perfect ride by Vincent Cheminaud when remaining unbeaten in North America with an emphatic victory in the Grade 3, $300,000 Modesty on the Kentucky Oaks card Friday at Churchill Downs. Racing a few lengths off the pace after freeing herself from early crowding, Didia tipped out for the stretch drive before rolling to a 1 1/2-length triumph in the 1 1/8-mile Modesty, which was completed in 1:47.46 over a firm turf. Didia earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 95. “I won’t say I was worried, but they were bunched tightly at the start. I felt more confident once I saw her settle into third,” said Correas, whose roster of prior stakes winners on this continent is led by Blue Prize, the Argentine-bred whose outstanding career was capped by a victory in the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Distaff. “From there, it was just a matter of whether or not she would have her kick. I don’t know how she does it, but she always makes it look easy.” Sweet Dani Girl set a reasonable pace under Javier Castellano in the 66th Modesty, with Lady Rockstar laying closest and Didia saving all the ground from just behind them. Once they passed the three-eighths pole, Didia began closing in without being asked, and after finding a clear lane, she surged to victory under steady handling. She paid $7.18 as second choice in a field of seven fillies and mares. New Year’s Eve, who loomed a major presence at the top of the stretch, settled for third, another half-length back. Shantisara, the 2-1 favorite, was fourth, followed by McKulick, Sparkle Blue, and Lady Rockstar. :: Take your handicapping to the next level and play with FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.  Didia, a 5-year-old mare by Orpen, a son of Lure, is owned by the Merribelle Stable of Charles Noel, the same outfit that raced Blue Prize. After winning 4 of 7 starts in Argentina, including a pair of Group 1 races, she now has won all four starts in the U.S. – a pair of races last summer at Colonial Downs, followed by the Benson Memorial at Fair Grounds in late March and now the Modesty, her first graded attempt since being imported. Correas, based at Keeneland in recent years, came to the United States in 2002. His other Argentine-breds to win graded events on this continent include Fantasioso, Dona Bruja, and Kasaqui. The $2 exacta (2-1) paid $63.90, the $1 trifecta (2-1-8) returned $178.78, and the 10-cent superfecta (2-1-8-7) was worth $428.64. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
