ARCADIA, Calif. – Devil Made Me Doit, whose blowout maiden win on opening day at Santa Anita stamped him as one of the most exciting local 3-year-old prospects of 2020, is on the shelf. Trainer Doug O’Neill said Devil Made Me Doit came out of his 9 1/2-length maiden victory “body sore.” He will be turned out 60 days and return the second half of the season. “He needs some time, and we’re giving it him,” O’Neill said Wednesday. “He’s a super talented horse, a big-time horse.” Devil Made Me Doit made his debut Dec. 28 in the first race of the meet, and ran to advance billing. Bet to 3-2 favoritism, the Daredevil colt set the pace under Mario Gutierrez, kicked away into the lane, and won the six-furlong race in a quick 1:10.29 to earn an 87 Beyer. Owned by J. Paul Reddam and Ciaran Dunne, Devil Made Me Doit sold for $245,000 at a 2-year-old sale last summer. O’Neill said the 2020 target for Devil Made Me Doit is the summer meet at Del Mar. ◗ Honor A. P., the 3-year-old colt expected to start favored over Authentic last week in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes, is merely walking at trainer John Shirreffs stable. Honor A. P. did not enter the Sham when he came up off in his right front. Initial X-rays did not reveal the issue. Shirreffs said on Wednesday the 3-year-old colt would undergo a second exam this week.
