DeVaux supplements More Than Looks to Fourstardave

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – When the Lure Stakes was moved from turf to the dirt last Saturday, trainer Cherie DeVaux was forced to call an audible with her multiple stakes winner More Than Looks, who was supplemented into Saturday’s Grade 1, $500,000 Fourstardave Handicap.
“He’s already up here. It’s not ideal to run him back in a Grade 1, but he’s doing well, he’s got to run,” DeVaux said.
More Than Looks went 4 for 8 last year, including victories in the Grade 3 Manila at Belmont and the listed Jefferson Cup at Churchill Downs. He has not run since finishing sixth, beaten two lengths by Master of The Seas, in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Master of The Seas is entered in the Fourstardave, as is Ottoman Fleet, both trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin.
On Monday, More Than Looks, under Irad Ortiz Jr., worked a half-mile in 48.72 seconds over the Oklahoma turf course. He galloped out five furlongs in 1:00.97 and six furlongs in 1:13.90.
“He’s doing great, he’s just not as fit as I would like him to be,” DeVaux said. “I was using [the Lure] to gain fitness, and this race obviously is a tougher task.”
The rest of the Fourstardave field includes Strong Quality, Major Dude, Carl Spackler, and Money Supply.
