Dettori lands third Group 1 this week aboard Advertise in Prix de Gheest
Advertise gave jockey Frankie Dettori his third Group 1 win in the last week in Sunday’s $422,066 Prix Maurice de Gheest at 6 1/2 furlongs on turf at Deauville Racecourse in France.
Sent off as the 2-1 favorite, Advertise was always near the front in the straightaway race. He stalked the pace to the final quarter-mile before taking the lead from Fox Champion. Advertise was challenged in the final furlong by 48-1 Brando and prevailed by a neck. Space Blues (5-1) finished third.
The first three finishers are based in England. The best-placed runner from France was Spinning Memories, a 33-1 shot who finished fourth.
One Master, fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs last November, finished fifth. Polydream, who won the 2018 Prix Maurice de Gheest, finished seventh.
Advertise, trained by Martyn Meade for Phoenix Thoroughbreds, won Group 1 races in England and Ireland earlier in his career. Dettori has won 12 Group 1 races this year. He won Group 1 races at Goodwood Racecourse in England last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Advertise, by Showcasing has won 5 of 9 starts. A four-time stakes winner, Advertise won the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes for 2-year-olds at the Curragh in August 2018.
