Deterministic targets Breeders' Cup Mile

Deterministic, who had a six-race winning streak snapped when getting beat by Notable Speech in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile, is back training at Saratoga, where he will likely be prepared for a start in the Breeders’ Cup Mile on Oct. 31 at Keeneland, trainer Miguel Clement said Sunday.

“We’re leaning towards the BC Mile,” he said.

Deterministic had won six consecutive graded stakes - including two runnings of the Fourstardave - before getting run down by Notable Speech, last year’s BC Mile winner, in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile on Sept. 12.

“He came out of the turn, he opened up three or four on them, but they got to me late,” Clement said. “That day it was not at all a speed-favoring E.P. Taylor turf course. That’s the longest stretch in North America and he got run down by a very good horse.”
