Desormeaux loses mount on Drosselmeyer

Jay Privman|May 16, 2010

Drosselmeyer, who finished second as the favorite in the Dwyer Stakes last weekend, will have a new rider when he competes in the June 5 Belmont Stakes, according to Elliott Walden, the racing manager for Drosselmeyer's owners, the WinStar Farm of Bill Caner and Kenny Troutt.

Walden said Kent Desormeaux, who has ridden Drosselmeyer in his last three starts, will be replaced, though no replacement has yet been named.

"The jockey is undecided," Walden said Sunday. "We want to try something a little different. We want to see if we can get over the hump. Not that Kent has done anything wrong. Sometimes you need to shake things up."

Desormeaux won last year's Belmont on Summer Bird.
