Desormeaux leaves hospital

Barbara D. Livingston Kent Desormeaux suffered multiple injuries when he kicked by his mount She's a Big Winner before Sunday's eighth race at Santa Anita.
Kent Desormeaux was released from nearby Arcadia Methodist hospital on Tuesday evening, according to his wife, Rosie Higgins, an exercise rider for trainer Bob Hess Jr.
Desormeaux, 44, was diagnosed with a bruised lung and fractured ribs and was kept in the hospital for two days for observation and X-rays, she said.
“They took more X-rays on Tuesday,” Higgins said. “He’ll have more X-rays in a week.”
It is not clear how long Desormeaux will be sidelined. A member of racing’s Hall of Fame, Desormeaux finished second in the standings at Del Mar over the summer. He won three races on Sunday’s program before the accident, which occurred prior to the eighth of nine races.
