Deshawn Parker sweeps quartet of Texas-bred stakes

It was a grand slam for jockey Deshawn Parker on Saturday night at Sam Houston.
The rider won all four stakes on the program, with the restricted races serving as preps for next month’s Texas Champions Day. The stakes were run in consecutive fashion Saturday.
Parker, who has won nearly 5,700 races since his first career victory in 1988, was winning four stakes on a card for the first time ever, according to a post-race interview broadcast by Sam Houston.
“This is a great night,” Parker said, while also expressing gratitude to his agent, Bobby Kelly.

Parker began his run when Texas Belle ($8.40) stormed to a four length victory over She’s Pretty Lucky in the $75,000 Miss Houston, a one-mile turf race for fillies and mares bred in Texas. The winner settled off fractions of 23.06 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.14 for the half-mile and 1:11.71 for six furlongs, before moving to the fore in the stretch and going on to cover the distance on firm turf in 1:37.15.
Mindy Willis trains Texas Belle, a daughter of Angliana, for Richard Chandler.
Parker then came back to take the $75,000 Two Altazano division of the Texas Stallion Stakes, with Dust a Flying. The 3-year-old filly rallied down the center of the track for a three-quarter-length win over It’s My Money. The winner covered six furlongs on a fast track in 1:12.19.
Bret Calhoun trains Dust a Flying, a daughter of Early Flyer, for Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch.
The same connections won the $75,000 Jim’s Orbit division of the Texas Stallion Stakes for 3-year-old colts and geldings two races later, when Gold Pilot ($8.60) rallied down the center of the track to win the six-furlong race in a sharp 1:10.33. He won by 2 3/4 lengths over Good Judgement. Gold Pilot is a son of My Golden Song.
The $75,000 Houston Turf was sandwiched between the Texas Stallion Stakes divisions and Redatory put on a display of his dominance in the Texas-bred turf division, winning by 4 1/4 lengths over Cowboy Bling. The race was for 4-year-olds and up bred in Texas.
Redatory ($3.80) was content to stalk pacesetter Sunlit Song in second, through fractions of 24.81 seconds for the opening quarter, 50.29 for the half-mile and 1:14.32 for six furlongs. He overtook the leader and went on to cover 1 1/16 miles on firm turf in 1:44.68.
Allen Dupuy trains Redatory for James Wessel. Wessel also is the breeder of the horse, who is by Oratory.
Redatory has now won 6 of 18 starts for earnings of $231,492. He’s won the richest turf race for his division at each meet in Texas, and was running in the Houston Turf for the first time Saturday.
