Derby prep next for Madefromlucky

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer Todd Pletcher said a stakes race is on the horizon for Madefromlucky, who had to dig deep before edging away to a 1 1/4-length victory over a game Quimet in a 1 1/8-mile entry-level allowance race for 3-year-olds here Wednesday.
The outing was the first for Madefromlucky since being turned over to Pletcher. Cheyenne Stables purchased a majority interest in Madefromlucky following a maiden victory for trainer John Mazza earlier in the meet.
“I thought it was a really good effort,” said Pletcher. “It was his first time at a mile and an eighth. He was wide both turns. And also, based on the way the track was playing, it wasn’t producing fast times.”
Pletcher said Madefromlucky will return in one of the Kentucky Derby preps, but he is uncertain which one.
◗ Jockey Jonathan Gonzales sustained a hairline fracture of his right leg in a mishap behind the starting gate prior to Wednesday’s eighth race. According to his agent, Peter Wright, Gonzales is likely to be sidelined for four to five weeks.
