Deputy Cures Blues up in time
FORT ERIE, Ontario - Deputy Cures Blues, bursting between horses in the final strides, was up in time to capture the $125,000 Rainbow Connection by a head here Sunday.
Cricket Wicket re-rallied to take second in the five-furlong turf race for Ontario-sired fillies and mares while On Silent Wings, who had opened up a two-length lead with just a furlong to run, ended another half-length back in third.
Deputy Cures, a 5-year-old owned by Herbert Chambers and trained by Jody Hammett, was clocked in :57.23 under Emile Ramsammy and earned $75,000 for her first turf victory. The $75,000 winner's share pushed her career earnings to $425,518.
Returning $6.20 as the second choice, Deputy Cures Blues keyed a $17.30 exactor over the 6-5 favorite Cricket Wicket and a $75.80 triactor with 8-1 On Silent Wings.
The top three finishers, and six of the seven entrants in the Rainbow Connection, are based at Woodbine.
