Denver City notches first stakes score in Remington Park Turf Sprint

How do you like me now?
Denver City went from claimer to stakes winner Friday night, when he captured the $70,000 Remington Park Turf Sprint for country artist Toby Keith and partner Danny Caldwell.
Keith, who sings the hit song “How Do You Like Me Now,” and Caldwell, the all-time leading owner at Remington, have some horses together as Country Bros Stable.
Denver City ($8.80) was a $25,000 claim in May. In the Turf Sprint, he set quick fractions over firm ground, blitzing through an opening quarter in 21.61 seconds and the half-mile in 43.69. He covered five-eighths in 55.38.
Weston Hamilton was aboard for trainer Oscar Flores.
Flores, like Denver City, recorded his first stakes win in the Turf Sprint. Flores launched his career in 2020.
Denver City won by 2 3/4 lengths over Pomeroy Haze. It was another half-length back in third to favorite Shannon C.
Denver City is a son of Silver Haze who has now won 7 of 17 starts for earnings of $175,308.
The Turf Sprint was one of three Oklahoma-bred stakes on the card. The races are expected to produce starters for next month’s Oklahoma Classics Night at Remington.

Run Slewpy Run ($2.40) ran her Remington turf record to 5 for 5 when she won the $70,000 Bob Barry Memorial for the second year in a row. She won by 1 1/2 lengths over Morning Twilight, while it was a head back in third to Plenty of Vision.
She’s All Wolfe was among three scratches from the Bob Barry.
Run Slewpy Run covered the 7 1/2 furlongs for fillies and mares in 1:29.51.
Luis Quinonez was aboard for trainer Jesse Oberlander.
Run Slewpy Run is a daughter of Den’s Legacy who races for her breeder, Mike Jones. She has now won 6 of 14 starts for earnings of $277,424.
Number One Dude ($18.80) won his turf debut in the $70,000 Red Earth, when he fought for a neck win over That’s Something. It was another length back in third to Tommyhawk.
Number One Dude covered 7 1/2 furlongs on turf for 3-year-olds and up in 1:29.37.
Leandro Goncalves was aboard for trainer Kari Craddock.
Number One Dude is a son of American Lion who races for his breeder, Terry Westemeir. He has now won 8 of 14 starts for earnings of $345,893. The win was the sixth stakes victory for Number One Dude.
