Dennis' Moment heading to Florida to prepare for Fountain of Youth

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer Dale Romans was at Gulfstream Park to watch the first wave of his 40-horse contingent that will stable here this winter gallop over the track on Monday morning. Among those expected in later this week is the talented 2-year-old Dennis’ Moment, who was given a little time off following the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile when he stumbled badly at the start and trailed the field as the 9-10 favorite.
Romans said Dennis’ Moment will travel from Kentucky and arrive at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, and will start training for the Fountain of Youth.
“Everything is good with him, we just wanted to let him have a little break,” Romans said. “That was the plan all along.”
Romans said Dennis’ Moment will start fresh once he arrives at Gulfstream Park.
“He hasn’t done anything on the farm,” said Romans. “It’s only been about 37 days, but it won’t take him long to get ready.”
The Grade 2 Fountain of Youth, to be decided at 1 1/16 miles on Feb. 29, will serve as Dennis’ Moment’s lone prep for his major goal here this winter, the $1 million Florida Derby four weeks later.
