Delta Prince works for Maker's 46 Mile

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Delta Prince, third in the inaugural Pegasus World Cup Turf at Gulfstream Park in January, worked five furlongs in 1:00.60 over Belmont Park’s training track Thursday morning. He is preparing for a start in the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile next Friday at Keeneland.
Delta Prince had shipped to Southern California for the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile when it was scheduled for March 9. But the race was postponed after Santa Anita stopped racing for about three weeks due to a rash of equine fatalities. The Kilroe ran on March 30, but Delta Prince was back in South Florida by then.
Though he will go into the Maker’s 46 Mile off a longer-than-planned layoff, trainer Jimmy Jerkens doesn’t believe the horse will be at a disadvantage.
“He’s a very willing work horse,” Jerkens said. “His works have all been good.”
