Delta Jackpot scheduled for Nov. 21
The Grade 3, $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot for 2-year-olds will be run Nov. 21, the Vinton, La., track has announced. It will be a Saturday afternoon program. Last year, the Jackpot card featured eight stakes worth a total of $2.2 million.
Delta will again offer a $200,000-guaranteed pool for an all-stakes pick four on Jackpot Day. The sequence will again include the Jackpot and the Grade 3 Delta Princess, a race for 2-year-old fillies that last year was won by eventual champion Take Charge Brandi.
The Jackpot, run over 1 1/16 miles, has carried eligibility points for the Kentucky Derby. The first three finishers from last year’s Jackpot – Ocho Ocho Ocho, Mr. Z, and Far Right – all competed in last weekend’s Kentucky Derby. The Jackpot, which will have its 13th anniversary running this year, has been represented by a total of 12 starters in the Kentucky Derby, according to a release from Delta.
◗ Louisiana Downs handled $1.3 million from all sources in a solid showing for its Wednesday card, said Trent McIntosh, director of operations for the Bossier City track. In the past, the race week had started on Thursdays.
