Delta Express has third straight win in Mark McDermott Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
Delta Express kept rolling Sunday night at Presque Isle Downs, remaining unbeaten in his brief career by winning the $100,000 Mark McDermott Stakes for Pennsylvania-bred juveniles.
Delta Express ($6) broke from post 3 in the short field of four under Walter De La Cruz and quickly established command through the opening quarter in 23.01. He clung to his lead through the half in 46.44 as the stakes-placed filly Amy Farah Fowler came alongside his throatlatch with a strong bid. Once straightened away into the stretch, Delta Express began to edge clear again when put to a drive.
Meanwhile, Amy Farah Fowler, who has displayed green antics prior to and during her previous outings, first shied out from a left-handed whip, then bore in from right-handed urging.
Delta Express hit the line 3 3/4 lengths in front, stopping the clock in 1:10.19 for the six furlongs on the all-weather track. Amy Farah Fowler was 2 1/4 lengths clear of favored Jump for Alex, who hesitated at the break. Pemaquid Sally rounded out the order of finish another two lengths back.
Delta Express, who is co-owned and trained by Jason DaCosta, won his debut on June 13 at Thistledown, then won an allowance-optional claiming race on July 16 at Presque Isle. He is now unbeaten in three starts.
