Delta Downs track report

VINTON, La. - Finalists for the $100,000-estimated Jean Lafitte Futurity on April 7, the highlight of the Delta Downs spring meeting, were determined during a series of three trials last Thursday.

The most impressive qualifier was the first trial winner, Pancho's Karma. Trained by Chad Hassenflug and ridden by veteran C.J. Woodley, Pancho's Karma ($4) made short work of six rivals in winning by six lengths with something left. Pancho Karma was clocked in 46.67 seconds for four furlongs, not far off the track record of 46.20 set by Rock Afire in 1994.

In the second trial, Uriah's Beginning ($3.80) came from just off the pace under leading rider Steve Bourque and drew off in hand to win by 4 1/2 lengths. Owned and trained by Floyd Pitzer, Uriah's Beginning was timed in 47.02.

The third trial proved to be the most competitive as Kate's Halo ($14) held off Amazing Grace by a length in a time of 48.61. The winner was ridden by Logan Cormier and is trained by Robert Jenkins.
