Delta Downs: So Much More returns

Trainer Josie Carroll picks her spots well. She has one stakes win from two starters this meet at Delta Downs, and the mare who won the stakes, So Much More, will return to Vinton, La., for the $50,000 Sweetheart.

The one-mile race for fillies and mares drew a field of six, including leading contender Miss Confusion, who was third last out in the $60,000 Truly Bound Handicap at Fair Grounds.

So Much More shipped to Delta in December and won the $75,000 Treasure Chest, a seven-furlong race around two turns, at 11-1. She has made one other start since that race, finishing fourth in the $50,000 Sam Houston Distaff on Jan. 22.

So Much More has been working at Fair Grounds and appears to be the class of the Sweetheart, with earnings of $325,516. Guy Smith, who was aboard So Much More in the Treasure Chest, has the mount again Saturday. Smith won 10 races over four days last week at Delta and leads the local standings.

Miss Confusion ran the best race of her career two races ago, when she won the one-mile Prime Rewards Stakes at Delta on Dec. 31. She drew out by eight lengths and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 88.

Following that race, Miss Confusion ran third to Shadow Cast in the $60,000 Truly Bound Handicap at Fair Grounds on Jan. 22. Ricky Faul has the mount for trainer Frank Leggio.
